Shell Script Games.com

Background Info

A little background. Most of the folks reading this probably know me as dgatwood from Slashdot. I'm also occasionally associated with such masochistic projects as MkLinux, the Darwin floppy driver for beige G3s, and a little-used open source radio station automation package, SongCue.

Every now and then, though, I like to do projects simply because I feel like somebody had to do it, so it might as well be me. This web site falls into that category. A combination of unlikely events inspired me to then try to create a shell script so insane that people could only ask "Why?" when they saw it.

The result was Shelltris, a shell-script-based game that bears a striking resemblance to the popular video game Tetris®. Since writing that, I have also written portions of other games that illustrate various tricks in shell-based animation, drawing text using multiple lines of characters on a high-resolution terminal window, and other tricks. Most of these games are not finished yet, however.
